Company History
The company now known as LCS was established in 1971 as a subsidiary of The Weitz Company, a Des Moines, Iowa-based company and the oldest general contractor west of the Mississippi. The Weitz Company had spent a decade building retirement communities and realized there was a need for a broad-based services organization to develop and manage senior living communities. The company was named Life Care Services in 1976. Life Care Services developed or built 31 new senior living communities across the United States during the 1970s and 1980s. By 1979, owners of other communities began contracting with Life Care Services for management services.
In 1995, Life Care Services became an employee-owned company. Since that time, several new companies have joined the fold, providing new synergies and opportunities in the field of senior living services. In 2011, the parent company became LCS, the new identity for the LCS Family of Companies dedicated to delivering exceptional, above-and-beyond products and services to America's senior population. Those companies are Life Care Services, LCS Development, CRSA, Health at Home and CPS.
Today more than 30,000 people live in over 100 communities managed and marketed by the companies of LCS, and thousands more benefit from the services of Health at Home and CPS.
