Safety & Health Consultant
The Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Association (STI/SPFA) is seeking a Safety & Health Consultant to support the association’s efforts to promote safe practices across the steel fabrication industry. This consultant will provide technical guidance, educational content, member support, and committee assistance related to workplace safety and health matters affecting STI/SPFA members.
Key Responsibilities
The Safety & Health Consultant will:
- Monitor and report on relevant safety and health issues affecting the steel fabrication industry, including regulatory developments, emerging risks, and industry best practices.
- Provide two written safety talks per month for publication on the STI/SPFA website, newsletter, social media channels, and other association communications.
- Develop and present quarterly safety webinars for STI/SPFA members.
- Present in-person safety education sessions at conferences as needed.
- Assist STI/SPFA members and staff with safety-related inquiries, including questions related to compliance, best practices, hazard awareness, and safety program development.
- Attend the STI/SPFA Annual Meeting and Future|Now Conference.
- Attend all STI/SPFA Safety and Health Committee meetings, including at least two in-person meetings and two virtual meetings per year.
- Support additional Safety and Health Committee work, including meeting preparation, follow-up items, member engagement, and related projects.
- Participate in safety-related committee work, which may include ANSI standard development, Safe Tank Alliance activities, and other industry initiatives.
- Address additional safety and health matters as determined by the Safety and Health Committee and STI/SPFA staff.
- Provide monthly report of activities.
Engagement Expectations
This is a consultant role supporting STI/SPFA staff, members, and the Safety and Health Committee. The consultant should be available for regular communication with STI/SPFA staff, scheduled committee meetings, member inquiries, content development, and safety-related projects throughout the year.
Reporting Relationship
The Safety & Health Consultant will work with STI/SPFA staff and the Safety and Health Committee to identify priorities, develop resources, respond to member needs, and support the association’s safety and health initiatives.
Requirements
Qualifications
The ideal consultant will have:
- Strong knowledge of workplace safety and health issues relevant to steel fabrication, manufacturing, and construction.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and other applicable safety standards.
- Experience developing safety training materials, toolbox talks, webinars, or other educational resources.
- Ability to communicate safety information clearly to both management and shop personnel.
- Experience working with committees, trade associations, consensus standards, or industry groups is preferred.
- Strong writing, presentation, and member-service skills.
